Peshawar: Child bride recovered, 50-year-old husband arrested
PESHAWAR: The city police on Thursday arrested a 50–year–old man for severely torturing his 13–year–old wife as the man had allegedly married her by force after paying Rs60, 000, police officials said. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP-Rural) Sajjad Khan told The News the police recovered Remisha, daughter of Rehmat Khan, belonging to Dir district, from the house of Zameen Shah at Imran Gari in Daudzai area in a very deplorable condition.
“The station house officer of Daudzai heard a girl crying inside a house during a routine patrol. I along with police personnel raided the house and recovered a minor girl whose feet had been chained and head shaved,” he said, adding that the police arrested the house owner Zameen Shah and took the girl to the police station.
The man, he said, had severely tortured the minor girl and claimed to be her husband. He produced Nikah Nama or matrimonial in support of his claim. In her statement to the police, the girl stated that she was a resident of Dir and was living in Islamabad. She claimed that her uncle Umar Zameen had kidnapped her from Islamabad and sold her to this Zameen Shah for Rs60, 000.
She said Zameen Shah had a forced marriage with her. “When I tried to escape from the house, he severely tortured me and shaved my head. The cruel man also chained me,” said the girl.
The police officer said the girl was shifted to a hospital for her medical examination. He said the police booked the man and had launched investigation into the case. The DSP said he had also issued directives to the station house officer of Daudzai police station to arrest all those who performed the Nikah of the minor girl.
