Rawalpindi: 2 lady doctors looted at BBH
RAWALPINDI: Two lady doctors were looted by a robber on gunpoint at the duty room adjacent to the Medicine Ward of Benazir Bhutto Hospital (BBH), exposing the feeble security arrangements of the area police and the hospital administration. The police are allegedly trying to push up the issue apparently in a bid to save their skin in any possible departmental action for failure in protecting the property and lives of the citizens from the clutches of robbers, dacoits and outlaws roaming and looting the people even in hospitals.
According to Medical Superintendent (MS) BBH Dr Asif Qadir Mir, the incident took place at 6am when the female doctors namely Dr. Nida and Dr Beenish were sitting in the duty room adjacent to the Medicine Wards 3 and 4.
He said that a man equipped with sophisticated weapon meanwhile stormed into the duty room and made the lady doctors hostage on gun point. Later, the robber collected cash, mobile phones and other valuables and run away, the MS explained.
Soon after the incident, the MS said, police was informed who rushed to the scene under the supervision of SHO Waris Khan. He also took the CCTV footage into custody and started investigation In the meanwhile, a case has also been registered against the armed robber.
“I have also initiated a departmental inquiry into the matter of serious nature,” the MS said.
To a question, Dr Asif replied that at the time of incident the watchman and ward boys were also present nearby but none of them tried to overwhelm the robber as it fled by brandishing his gun.
Meanwhile, Young Doctors Association (YDA) BBH Vice President Dr Umer Kaleem, while talking to The Nation, confirmed the incident saying, “Yes, two lady doctors sitting in the duty room have been deprived of their valuables by an unidentified gunman.”
Revealing more details, Dr Umer said that according to female doctors, the robber wore pant shirt and glasses with having small beard on his face. “We were sitting in the duty room at 6am when the intruder barged into the room and pointed his pistol over us.
Then he snatched our cash, mobile phones and other valuables and left the room,” said Dr Umer Kaleem while quoting the victim lady doctors.
When contacted, SHO Ijaz Shah completely denied the happening of such incident in the hospital. He said that neither any doctor was looted in the hospital nor the police filed a case.
The other officials of Waris Khan police station and BBH Police check post also provided cover to their boss SHO Ijaz Shah.
However, the MS said that the police is telling a lie. “We have got registered a case against the thief and CCTV footage has also been handed over to SHO besides getting the copy of FIR from police,” he said.
