Karachi: ‘Target killer’ divulges hit list
KARACHI: The arrested accomplice of the prime suspect in Geo News reporter Wali Khan Babar’s murder case has revealed that a number of police officials and politicians were on their hit list. Mohammed Rashid alias Tariq Chamber was arrested in injured condition by the Darakhshan police after an encounter at Sea View on Saturday in which Liaquat Ali, who was wanted in Wali Khan Babar murder case, was killed.
Liaquat Ali was also wanted in more than 40 cases of target killing, including the murder of seven police officials, some prime witnesses in the Wali Babar murder case and the brother of SHO Shafiq Tanoli of Darakhshan police station.
According to SHO Tanoli, police started recording Tariq Chamber’s statement after he regained senses.
He told the police that he had been working for a certain group for the past many years.
He revealed that he was earlier arrested in target killing cases and was lodged in jail, but he was later released and resumed his criminal activities.
Tariq Chamber and his group had a hit list that contained the names of various police officials and politicians.
However, the SHO refused to give further details to this effect.
He was wanted in a number of target killing and kidnapping for ransom cases by the Gulshan, Mobina Town, Korangi Industrial Area and Sohrab Goth police stations.
He and his accomplices were also involved in robbing millions of rupees from a cash van in the Korangi area.
SHO Tanoli said that Liaquat, Rashid and their accomplices were gathering information about their future targets in Defence area when they were challenged by the police at Sea View on Saturday. Further investigations were under way.
