‘25 Karachi traders killed in 4 months’
KARACHI: Armed extortion mafias backed by different political groups have began a war in Karachi and during last four months 25 traders have been killed in 13 hand grenade attacks in different market areas of the city, said All Pakistan Organization of Small Traders and Cottage Industries Karachi chapter president Mahmood Hamid. Addressing a meeting here ON Monday, he said targeted killings and rising crime had devastated small trade in Karachi. He said during the last four months some 400 people were gunned down in Karachi in targeted attacks.
He said more than 50 incidents of kidnapping for ransom of traders had been reported during these four months, while a large number of other traders had paid ransoms of millions of rupees silently, as they had no confidence in city police. He regretted that the government due to its political expediencies had given a free hand to terrorists, extortionists and other criminals of Karachi.
