Karachi: Banned TTP man among 5 arrested
KARACHI: The law enforcement agencies claimed to have apprehended five suspects, including a militant of a banned organisation from different areas of the metropolis on Monday. Pak Colony police claimed to have arrested a militant of banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). The suspect is said to have been involved in the assassinations of four policemen. SSP West Amir Farooqui said that a police party conducted a raid in Jehanabad area and after a brief encounter, arrested Mohammad Yaseen Mehsud alias Naib Commando, recovering two 9 mm pistols from his possession. He informed that during interrogation, he confessed to his involvement in the murders of four policemen, including Sub Inspector Sabtain and Constable Sajid in Manghopir, Constable Noor Islam in Pirabad and Head Constable Nadeem Abbasi. The accused is also said to have been involved in riots at Kati Pahari and its surrounding areas during ethnic violence in Karachi.
Separately, SIU, Anti Extortion Cell (AEC) claimed to have arrested two extortionists from Kharadar. An SIU Official said that the police party on a tip-off raided Gao Gali, Jodia Bazaar and arrested two extortionists Israr Hussain and Mumtaz Ali, recovering two pistols from their possessions. SSP Khurram Waris said that accused was an employee of a private security company and had demanded Rs 5 million from Mohammad Qasim, the owner of Momin Hotel, Kharadar near Achi Qabar. He further informed that the accused were involved in several cases of extortion and kidnapping for ransom. A heavy contingent of Rangers raided Muslim Town, North Karachi, sealing all of its entrance and exit points and detaining two suspects. They claimed to have recovered weapons from the possession of suspects.
