Karachi: 3 bank robbers arrested — Video
KARACHI: Three alleged bank robbers were arrested on Tuesday after an encounter with police in the Jackson area. The arrested were in possession of Rs0.5 million in looted cash, stolen laptops, CCTV recordings of their previous bank heists and firearms, personnel of the Anti–Extremism Cell (AEC) told The News. After conducting preliminary investigations in which the AEC developed CCTV footage of two recent bank heists and expanded its intelligence network, Senior Superintendent Police Aslam Khan received a tip-off from a spy who disclosed that the criminals involved in the aforementioned bank heists were holed up in a safe-house in the Jackson area.
SSP Khan immediately deployed a team to the area under the supervision of DSP Ali Raza.
Upon seeing the approaching policemen the outlaws opened fire, and after a brief encounter, police arrested Imran, Abu Bakar and Asif Shah, who were later taken to AEC’s investigation unit. Two Kalashnikovs, two TT pistols, Rs0.5 million in stolen cash, 5 cell phones and eight laptops were found in the safe-house.
During questioning it was learnt that the accused belong to an interprovincial gang which also operates in Punjab. “The accused also confessed to having committed bank robberies in Multan, and of holding up people using ATMs” said SSP Khan.[youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a0qhAHl3FoM[/youtube]
