Hyderabad: Man killed, 14 hurt in attack by rivals
HYDERABAD: A man was killed and 14 were injured when a group of Arain community attacked Qureshis in Paretabad area here on Wednesday. There are conflicting reports about what caused the attack. One Zeeshan Qureshi, 20, was killed and 14 of his relatives were injured in the attack, which, according to one report, involved a deal that went sour between Zeeshan and Azam Arain. Zeeshan had reportedly obtained a motorcycle from Azam on rent.
According to area people, Azam backed by others intercepted Zeeshan and chased him into his home. He assaulted other family members and fired indiscriminately, killing Zeeshan, and injuring his relatives including Zeeshan, his brother Asif (he has been shifted to a Karachi hospital because of his precarious condition), Adnan, Zain, 11, Manzoor, Shakeel, Raju, Kamran, Abdul Majeed, Abdul Shakoor, Mushtaq, Khalid, Umar Daraz and Rizwan.
Khalid and Umar have been admitted to civil hospital. Khalid’s condition is stated to be serious.
According to resident of the area, a robbery was at the centre of the incident in which a jeweller Abbas Arain was deprived of gold ornaments on Tuesday night.
The Arains believed the robbers belonged to the Qureshi community and asked them on Wednesday to return the jewellery but Qureshis rejected their claim. Enraged, the Arains attacked their homes and opened indiscriminate fire in the area, he said.
The injured were shifted to the civil hospital where their relatives and friends manhandled paramedics and doctors who had to run away to escape their wrath. Later, police and rangers were called to provide them security and they returned to treat patients.
Parliamentarians of the area are trying to normalise the situation. No case has so far been lodged.
