Karachi: 3 cops hurt in grenade attack; intelligence official kidnapped
KARACHI: A hand grenade was lobbed at the Risala police station late on Wednesday night in which four people, including three police constables, were injured. Sub–Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Mushtaq Tanoli of Risala Division said that on Wednesday night some unidentified armed men riding a motorcycle lobbed a hand grenade at the police station and fled. Due to the explosion three policemen, Abdul Rahim, Barkat and Naveed and a worker of a tea shop, Tariq, who had been standing by the main wall of the police station, sustained injuries.
The injured were taken to the Civil Hospital where the condition of the constables was stated to be critical.
Investigators said that some witnesses had claimed that the suspects were two in number who were in shirts and trousers while some others claimed that the suspects were in shalwar kameez.
They said that due to the deteriorating law and order situation in the city, the police had already been a target as they were performing operations against criminal elements which were working against the state.
They claimed that it was too early to confirm the involvement of any group behind the attack and the investigations would be conducted from all angles.

Police sources said that the Deputy Inspector–General of Police, South Range, Mushtaq Mehar, had ordered the SPs of his range to increase security at the police station.
Meanwhile, unidentified suspects late on Tuesday night kidnapped an inspector of an intelligence agency in the Old City area.
Police sources said that they were informed late Tuesday night that an inspector of an intelligence agency, Fazal Mehmood Mithani, had been missing in the Old City area.
During investigation it was found that the officer had been posted at the Clifton office of the agency and late on Tuesday night he left the office for some work and went missing.
The cell phone of Inspector Mithani was also switched off.
Investigators said that they had tried to locate the last location of Inspector Mithani, which confirmed that he was last present near the Tower area. An FIA has been lodged at the Garden police station by his elder brother.
They added that it was too early to confirm the involvement of any group as investigations were continuing. He is a relative of MPA Shama Mithani and resident of District Central.
