Karachi: Couple fails to appear in court over abduction allegations
KARACHI: A newly married couple was unable to appear before a judicial magistrate on Wednesday owing to interference on the part of the wife’s parents, who lodged a case against the husband, Usman, alleging that he had kidnapped their daughter. The couple had told their version of the story to Station House Officer (SHO) of City Court Police Station Khalid Jameel, who then asked the parents to let her daughter, Sidra, and her husband appear before the court concerned. However, Assistant Sub Inspector Sahfique Tanoli pointed out that, being the investigation officer in the case, he was duty bound to investigate the case as a possible kidnapping.
The investigation officer contended that the case was still there and Sidra would have to present her marriage certificate at the Shershah police station, after which they would be free to appear before the court. SHO Khalid Jameel asked the couple to accompany the investigation officer and told them that they would be free to appear before the court after presenting the necessary documents.
Meanwhile, Sidra’s parents and other relatives maintained that Usman, with the help of his relative Boota, had kidnapped Sidra. Despite their claims, Siddra declared that she was not ready to return to her parents’ house and that she would prefer to go the police station along with her husband.
