Karachi: ‘Bandit’ killed in shootout with police
KARACHI: A suspected bandit was shot dead in what the police described as an encounter in North Karachi within the remit of the Sir Syed police station on Thursday. The shootout took place at Elahi Milk Shop, in Sector 7-D of North Karachi, after two men riding a motorcycle snatched Rs10,000 from Afzal, the shop owner. They were trying to escape when they were intercepted by a police party. The bandits resorted to firing into the air. The police opened fire on them.
As a result, one of the bandits sustained gunshot and fell off the motorcycle. However, his accomplice managed to flee. SHO Changaiz Khan said the police seized a pistol, a cellphone and Rs10,000 from his possession before shifting the suspect to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where he succumbed to his wounds.
The officer said that the identity of the bandit could not be immediately ascertained.
The police shifted the body to the Edhi morgue after completing medico–legal formalities. They registered a case (FIR No 272/2012) on shop owner Afzal’s complaint.
