2 cops among 6 hurt in Nowshera blast
NOWSHERA: Six persons, including two policemen, were injured when unknown militants targetted a police van with an improvised explosive device (IED) on the Grand Trunk (GT) Road here on Friday. The sources said the explosion took place when the vehicle carrying policemen reached Aurangabad near Wapda Colony. The police mobile van and a pickup truck passing on the road were damaged in the blast. Two cops and four persons travelling in the pickup truck sustained critical injuries. The injured included the driver of the police van, Wajid Ali, and Constable Hazrat Ali along with Noor Muhammad, Noorullah, Amin Jan and Shams.
The two policemen and one civilian were shifted to Peshawar due to their precarious condition, the sources added. The sources said the police found two notes from the spot with stamps of the banned Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). The notes said the attack was carried out by the TTP to avenge the recent murder of Maulana Naseeb Khan Wazir.
Maulana Naseeb Khan Wazir, a resident of North Waziristan and a teacher of the Darul Uloom Haqqania at Akora Khattak was kidnapped and later killed by unknown people last month. It was the fourth incident of violence in Nowshera in recent days as earlier unknown militants attacked a police van and a convoy of the security forces in Risalpur in separate incidents. A government school was also blown up in the district two days back.
