Karachi: 2 ANP supporters, KRC member shot dead
KARACHI: Two supporters of the Awami National Party (ANP) and a member of the Katchi Rabita Committee (KRC) were killed in separate incidents in the city on Friday. The bullet–riddled and trussed up body of a man was found in bushes in the Mehran Town area of Korangi Industrial Area in the morning. Police said the victim was brutally tortured and his hands were tied up with a rope. The body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre. The police also aired a message on the police control system for the verification of the victim.
Korangi Industrial Area SHO Malik Ayub said the police found the phone number of a victim’s relative while searching his clothes. The relative reached the police station when contacted and identified the victim as 30–year–old Noor Rehman, a resident of Kunwari Colony in Manghopir.
The relative informed the police that Rehman had left home on Thursday evening after informing the family that he was going to meet with a person, who had to pay him Rs0.6 million. However, he did not return.
Investigators said Rehman was an ANP supporter and the murder appeared to be motivated by personal enmity. However, they added, they would investigate the possibility of target killing as well.
The victim has left behind a widow and two daughters. A case was registered and further investigations were under way.
Separately, a man was shot in the Sultanabad area of Manghopir in the night.
Manghopir SHO Chaudhry Basheer said the victim, identified as Malik Shahzada, was found injured when the police arrived at the crime scene. He was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim was a resident of the same area where he was targeted. He was sitting outside his house when two men on a motorcycle opened fire on him and fled.
The victim suffered two bullet wounds on his chest. The police found empty pistol shells at the crime scene that were sent to the Sindh Police Laboratory for forensic tests.
Police sleuths said Shahzada was a motor mechanic and an ANP supporter, originating from Swat. They added that the murder might be another case of target killing, but they would also investigate the angle of personal enmity.
In another case, a man was targeted in the Moosa Lane area of Baghdadi in the night.
Police said the victim, identified as Irfan Katchi, was a resident of the same area where he was attacked. He was on his way home and a short distance away from his house when two men riding a motorcycle sprayed him with bullets and escaped.
He was rushed to the Civil Hospital Karachi, where he died during treatment. The victim suffered multiple bullet wounds on his body. The police found empty pistol shells at the crime scene and sent them to the forensic division.
Investigators said the victim was a KRC member and earlier resided in Khadda Market. He left the area a few months ago after some unidentified men attempted to kill him.
Katchi was working at the Karachi Stock Exchange and left behind a widow and four children. The police have registered an FIR and were further probing the case.
