KARACHI: The CrimeInvestigationDepartment (CID) Sindh said on Saturday it had arrested an alleged member of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) involved in murder and extortion cases, and recoveredweapons from his possession. CIDSSPMohammadFayyazKhan said an investigation into targetkilling and extortion cases was under way when a spy tipped him off about the presence of the TTPoperative in SohrabGoth.
“A CID team conducted a raid near NadirHospital on LinkRoad, SuperHighway and after a brief encounter, arrested JehangirKhanAkakhel and took him to the investigation unit,” he added.
During interrogation, Akakhel told the police that he was a TTP activist working for SherZamanMehsud, a senior leader of the banned outfit in SohrabGoth. He also confessed to killing a man named SardarMohammed in Sachal for refusing to pay extortion money.
Akakhel further disclosed that Mehsud and others members of his group had also murdered a man named LalKhan in SohrabGoth for the same reason.
Mehsud had ordered his men to commit crimes using larger weapons and they were planning to snatch guns from the security guards at a petrol pump on Super Highway. They had also looted the BuraakPetrolPump in the area and took away two Kalashnikovs from the guards there.
The CID official said Akakhel has denied his involvement in the attack on the convoy of MalirSSPRaoAnwaarAhmed. The CID was carrying out further investigations.
