Karachi: 5 killed in different acts of violence in metropolis
KARACHI: Five people were killed in acts of violence that took place in different areas of the metropolis here on Wednesday. A man was shot dead while another injured near Sagheer Centre within the precincts of Yousuf Plaza police station. According to DSP Saleem Akhtar Siddiqui, two motorcyclists called out at two men riding another motorbike on which, one of them jumped off and tried to escape. The armed men, who had been following their target, then opened fire, killing the escaping man besides injuring his fellow on the motorbike. The assaulting motorcyclists then managed to flee from the scene at ease.
Police shifted the body and injured to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) where deceased was identified as 32-year-old Gulab Din and the injured as Abdul Razzak. DSP Siddiqui said Gulab Din was a resident of Bilal Colony, New Karachi and might have been killed over some personal enmity.
In another incident, a man was shot dead while another injured near Cheel Chowk, Nawa Lane within the precincts of Kalakot police station. Twenty-five-year-old Owais, son of Ameer Mohammad and Naeem alias Lahoti were guarding the stronghold of outlawed People’s Amn Committee (PAC) when unidentified armed motorcyclists sprayed them with bullets. As a result, Owais died on the spot while Naeem was injured critically.
Police shifted the body to Civil Hospital Karachi for medico–legal formalities. A police official confirmed that Owais was associated with the PAC, adding that injured Naeem’s whereabouts could not be ascertained as he did not reach any known hospital and might have been taken to a private hospital by his gang members.
Sources said that Naeem had received bullet injuries in the police operation carried out in the end of April as well. DSP Nasir Lodhi presumed that the assault was an offshoot of tension between two gangs. Case could not be registered till filing of this report.
Separately, police found two bullet-riddled bodies from a shrubbery in Sahib Dad Goth within the limits of Memon Goth police station. SHO Rao Khalid said that the victims, yet unidentified, were shot multiple times.
According to eyewitnesses, unidentified men who arrived in two cars, yanked them off one of the vehicles and then shot multiple times. He further informed that both victims appeared to be servants. Bodies were shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for medico–legal formalities. An officer said that the reason for dual murder is yet to be ascertained by the police. They have registered a case against unidentified men on the complaint of state.
Meanwhile, a youngster’s body was found from Kunwari Colony within the limits of Manghopir police station. The body of victim, yet unidentified, was taken to the ASH for autopsy. SHO Chaudhry Saeed said that the victims’ hands and legs were tied with the ropes, which suggested that he was first abducted and then shot in the face.
