Karachi: Cellphones, drug being sent to jail seized
KARACHI: The police on Thursday seized five cellphones and hashish concealed in construction material being sent to the central prison, officials said. They said the phones and contraband substance was spotted during a regular examination of the vehicles entering the prison for various purposes. That was when police officials spotted a mini truck carrying bricks to be used in the construction of a toilet in a jail ward.
“Some of the bricks looked suspiciously strange leading to a further examination and recovery of five cellphones concealed inside,” said Inspector Inam Junejo, the SHO of the New Town police station.
“The discovery of cellphones sent alarms bells ringing. The truck was seized and its driver and aide detained.
A further examination of the vehicle led to the recovery of cellphone batteries, chargers and hashish.”
