Karachi: Kidnappers’ gang busted, banker’s wife recovered
KARACHI: The Anti–Violent Crime Cell (AVCC), along with the Citizens–Police Liaison Committee (CPLC), busted a gang of kidnappers and recovered the wife of a local banker. The CPLC chief Ahmed Chinoy told The News that unidentified people kidnapped Kanwal, wife of Sohail Malik, a local banker from Defence Phase VII on Thursday afternoon while she was going in her vehicle along with the driver. The kidnappers called Sohail’s family members on his cell phone and informed him that his wife Kanwal was kidnapped and demanded Rs10 million as ransom for her release.
The family members approached the police and special teams were constituted on the basis of information received. The teams were deployed in different parts of the city.
The police and CPLC made a deal with the kidnappers for Rs one million. Later the kidnappers asked Kanwal’s family to come to Zamzama in Clifton police jurisdiction.
The kidnappers came along with Kanwal in their vehicle. The kidnappers saw the police and opened fire. Police retaliated and injured one kidnapper Jameel Ahmed, 25, while his three accomplices managed to flee. The police took the injured to a hospital.
