Karachi: Policeman among 4 shot dead
KARACHI: Four people, including a police sub–inspector, were gunned down in various areas of the city on Thursday. Sub–Inspector Abdul Rauf Baloch, 40, was riding home after his daily duty at the MT Workshop when he was sprayed with bullets by motorcyclists near Ghulam Hussain Baloch Road, SHO Syed Muthahir Hussain told The News. People from the vicinity alerted the police, who shifted the body to the Civil Hospital for medico–legal formalities. Baloch was a resident of Gul Muhammad Lane in Lyari and a father to three children. SHO Hussain termed his murder a target killing.
Separately, Israr Khan, 32, was shot dead near Khushal Chowk while he was on his way home. Khan’s was body was later taken to the Civil Hospital by police for a post-mortem. SHO Madad Ali Zardari believes that the murder was the result of an old enmity. Khan was a father to four children and worked as a driver.
The bullet–riddled body of an unidentified man was found packed in a gunny bag near the Mobile Market situated in the Khada Market. Police were informed of the body by a passer-by, after which they shifted the body to the Civil Hospital.
The medico–legal officer at the hospital said that the victim, who was found with his hands tied by rope, had been brutally tortured before being shot twice by his abductors.
A pedestrian was shot dead in Sector 5-M, North Karachi, by two motorcyclists. The man’s body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for legal formalities, said SHO Ilyas Shah. SHO Ilyas believes the drive-by incident was a targeted attack.
Late on Thursday night, bandits killed a teenager in Awami Colony police limits.
The bandits intercepted Muhammad Shakeel, 18, near Memon Institute in Korangi No 5 and told him to hand over cash and mobile phone. When he resisted the bandits opened fire on him. Some residents of the area managed to get hold of a bandit and started beating him. Later, police arrested him.
