Lahore: SHO faces allegation of rape
LAHORE: The provincial police chief has suspended Factory Area police SHO Rashid Amin Butt on receiving reports that he is involved in the rape of a woman. A handout issued by the Punjab Police Headquarters on Thursday said the IG also directed the Cantonment SP (Operations) to register a case and arrest four others – constables Maqsood, Munawar, Amin and Shahzad – for their involvement in the case. A source in the Cantonment division police told Dawn the SHO had nothing to do with the issue as the incident took place before the appointment of Mr Butt.
He said the victim had alleged that constable Maqsood and his fellow constables had first stopped their rickshaw for checking and then took her and her brother to a flat where she was raped on April 11 last.
He said the woman stated before the policemen that she was returning home along with her brother after attending a marriage ceremony.
The policemen claimed they took the woman to the police station where she was handed over to a bailiff, he said.
On the orders of the sessions court, the victim’s medical test was conducted but it apparently found no marks of violence. Later, the case was heard in higher courts and police were directed to register a case against the guilty policemen.
A Factory Area police official said a case would be registered against the officials after the police received application from the complainant.
He said constable Maqsood and others went missing.
Inspector Rashid Amin Butt said he was still working as the Factory Area SHO and had yet to receive any orders of his suspension.
