Karachi: Acid thrown on man on court premises
KARACHI: A man suffered serious burn injuries in an acid attack in the premises of the City Courts on Friday. According to the police officials, Shahbaz Chaudhry along with his wife Farah Naz had come to the city courts in connection with the hearing of his case. Police said when the couple reached near the City Courts lock up, accused Arif Hussain carrying a jug full of acid douse it over Shahbaz who fell on the spot. The victim was rushed to the Civil Hospital’s Burns Unit where he was admitted in serious condition.
ASP Mithadar Ali Asif said both the parties were distant relatives, but had history of registering counter FIRs against each other and a similar attack was also occurred in the past. Following the incident the accused Arif Hussain surrendered before the police. In his statement to the police, he said that on the occasion of last Eid, Shahbaz had doubt his elder brother Sakhawat Hussain. He suffered serious burns and died shortly after Arif told the police that my nephews (children of Sakhawat Hussain) used to ask me to take them to his grave. “Today I am stand satisfied,” he told the police. Police said that both the parties have lodged over 30 counter FIRs against each other during the last 10 years. Both the parties belong from the profession of gold smith. Apparently, this is the reason they are using strong acid in the attacks, police said. Police have registered an FIR 64/2012 under Section 324, 336 and 114/34 against Arif Hussain, Sabir Hussain, Khadim Hussain and Shahzad on the complaint of victim’s wife Farah Naz at the City Courts police station.
