Karachi: Rs4.5m robbed in second bank heist in 2 days
KARACHI: In the third bank heist of the month, five robbers took away Rs4.5 million from a private bank in the Rizvia Society police limits on Friday morning. It was also the 10th bank robbery of the year. Sub Division Police Officer Shahid Abbas told The News that two robbers entered a branch of Habib Bank Limited in Nazimabad. They went into the room of the bank manger, Mubashir, and engaged him in a conversation to distract him, he said.
In the meantime, they signalled their accomplices, waiting outside the bank, to enter the premises.
The three men entered the bank, overpowered two guards, Maroof and Fazal-e-Kareem, and snatched their weapons. Holding the staff hostage at gunpoint, they, along with a cashier, went into the strong room, collected the cash and fled.
According to the bank manager, the robbers, who were well-dressed and appeared to be middle-aged, completed the heist within eight to 10 minutes.
The outlaws also stole CCTV footage; however, in their haste, they took away Thursday’s footage.
A police team, including personnel of the Special Investigation Unit, arrived at the bank for investigations.
An FIR was lodged by the bank manger against the unknown criminals at the Rizvia police station.
In a similar robbery on Thursday, five men had taken away Rs2.5 million from a branch of Dubai Islamic Bank in the Gulberg area. The heist was committed in 15 minutes.
