Karachi: Kidnapped trader recovered
KARACHI: Gulshan–e–Maymar police raided a house in Afghan Basti and safely recovered the owner of a courier firm as well as arresting two kidnappers with arms on Tuesday. According to DIG Shahid Hayat of the East Range, Murtaza Wasee was kidnapped in the Sohrab Goth police remit on June 9. Later, his family reported to the police that Murtaza had left his Shah Faisal Colony residence for some official work for Sohrab Goth on the day, when he was kidnapped and later his captors demanded Rs100 million in ransom.
Consequently, a police team was constituted under the supervision of SDPO Sohrab Goth Iftekhar Lodhi, which comprised SHO Gulshan–e–Maymar Manzoor Siddiqi and SHO Sohrab Goth.
The police team started negotiations with the kidnappers and settled the ransom amount to Rs10 million. In the meantime, the police received a tip-off and raided a house on Bahadur Road in Afghan Basti.
Upon seeing the police, the suspects opened fire and an encounter ensued, following which Abdul Rasheed and Mehboob Khan were arrested and two pistols recovered from their possession.
During the search of their hideout, the police managed to safely recover Murtaza Wasee. Further investigations are under way.
