Karachi: Arms supplier arrested
KARACHI: An alleged supplier of weapons to target killers and Lyari gang war members was apprehended by the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) on Thursday. SSP SIU Khurram Waris told The News that after receiving a tip-off that the accused, Ilyas alias Guddu alias TT, was standing near the JPMC entrance, a team was sent to arrest him. During the initial interrogation, the suspect confessed that he along with his accomplices supplied weapons to target killers, supporters of different political parties, People’s Aman Committee and Lyari gang war members. The weapons were brought into the city from Peshawar.
Following the disclosure, the police raided his hideout in North Karachi and seized a big haul of arms and ammunition, including five repeaters, eight MM rifles, a MP-5 rocket and hundreds of live bullets. Ilyas also admitted that he was imprisoned in 1990 over the same charges but was bailed after three years, following which he started this business again.
