Karachi: ‘Target killer’ of over 70 people arrested
KARACHI: A special team of the District West police arrested an alleged gangster belonging to the banned People’s Aman Committee (PAC) from the Mauripur area on Monday. The suspect was involved in more than 70 target killing and kidnapping for ransom cases, including the killing of activists of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), Awami National Party (ANP) and Sunni Tehreek (ST).
According to SSP (West) Amir Farooqi, they received information that some suspects involved in target killing cases were hiding in Musharraf Colony, Mauripur.
Acting on the tip-off, a special police team of District West and the Mauripur police station raided the hideout. Upon seeing the police, the suspects opened fire and an encounter ensued following which one Furqan was arrested while his accomplices managed to flee under the cover of fire. During the search of their hideout, the police recovered five hand grenades and a 7mm rifle.
During the interrogation, Furqan disclosed to the police that he belonged to the Waseeullah alias Lakho group of the banned PAC and confessed to killing workers of various parties and throwing their bodies in different parts of the city.
He named his accomplices as Taj Mohammed alias Taju, Saeed Pathan, Ayaz Behari, Rashid Bengali, Jawed Kapti and Sajjad Khatri Tamba. He confessed to having targeted 70 people, including the recent killing of three members of the MQM in the Chakiwara police remits.
Furqan revealed that their group was active in Baldia, Ghas Mandi, Sirya Gali, Macher Colony, Khadda Market, Kharadar and ICI Bridge areas from where they used to kidnap people for ransom, besides killing people, including political workers.
He revealed that on June 15, he along with Jawed alias Kapti had kidnapped five MQM workers – Mohammed Ijhtebah Khan, Syed Hassan Raza, Atif Usmani, Bilal and Mateen – from Baghdadi area and took them to their Sheen House hideout and torture cell in Lyari.
He narrated that during the shifting process Bilal fled from their captivity while the three others were tortured to death and their bodies were stuffed in gunny bags and thrown on Mirza Adam Khan Road. However, Mateen was still in the captivity of their leader Taj Mohammed alias Taju.
Furqan further confessed to kidnapping traders from the said areas and extorting huge amount of ransom for their release. SSP Farooqi said that Furqan and his accomplices were also involved in the targeted killing of ANP and ST workers in Mauripur and Baldia Town areas.
