Chunian: Changa Manga, Lahore officials arrested
CHUNIAN: The Punjab Anti Corruption Establishment has arrested Changa Manga District Forest Officer Malik Saleem SDO Fareed Hashmi and Lahore DFO Siddique Dogar on the charges of corruption. These arrests have been made in the Changa Manga forest scam. Earlier, Punjab CM Shahbaz Sharif had ordered an inquiry into the Changa Manga deforestation by timber mafia and forest officials. The CM’s investigation team and Punjab Anti–Corruption Establishment were ordered to conduct an independent inquiry.
The team, in its initial investigation, has arrested the above-mentioned forest officials on corruption charges.
Sources told The Nation that the team recovered about Rs 0.5 million from the office cupboard of the SDO Changa Manga. This money was reportedly recieved as bribery from the timber mafia and the SDO was caught red handed.
During Investigation, the SDO revealed that the DFO Changa Manga and the DFO Lahore, who was previously working as DFO Changa Manga, are also involved in deforestation scam. Investigation agencies are keeping the proceedings hidden and are not reporting the initial findings to the media yet.
But sources believe that there is much more to come in this scam and the arrests made are just a tip of the iceberg.
