Hafizabad: Rs 100m dacoity at jeweller’s shop
HAFIZABAD: The victim of the Rs 100m dacoity has deplored that the police have failed to trace the culprits despite the transfer of two district police officers during the last six months. Talking to The News, he alleged that he had gone to Karachi and traced one of the accused, but a police officer said to be favourite of the DPO released him after receiving Rs 600,000 as bribe. He suspected that the then SHO and some policemen were involved in the crime. He said that he had met the IGP Punjab who transferred the former DPO for not tracing the dacoits.
He said that though the then SHO had been transferred on his complaint, the police could not trace the culprits. He hoped that the newly appointed DPO would trace the dacoits and recover the booty. On February 11, 20 dacoits with gas cutters broke into the jewellery shop at Mian Bazaar, hardly 100 yards away from the city police station. They remained in the shop for two hours and decamped with gold ornaments worth Rs 100 million.
