KARACHI:The Special Investigation Unit (SIU) on Monday arrested an alleged target killer involved in more than 150 target killings. SIU chief SSP Khurram Waris said that after receiving a tip-off from an informer, a team raided a house near Qasba Morr in Orangi Town to arrest the suspect. An encounter began when the suspect opened fire to escape arrest and the policemen retaliated. After the shootout, Jawed alias Bunda was arrested and taken to the investigation unit. A Kalashnikov and a 9mm pistol was seized from his possession. During the interrogation, Bunda said he was an activist of a political party and involved in more than 150 target killing, extortion and kidnapping for ransom cases. He said his victims included workers of political and religious parties, SSP Waris said.
GUJRANWALA: The FIA claimed to have arrested five human traffickers here on Monday. The arrested accused are: Abdul Razzaq from Jalalpur Jattan, Shabbir Ahmed from Gujrat, Adnan from Gujranwala, Shaukat and Faisal from Sialkot. FIA Inspector Ghazanfar told The News that one of the accused had been absconding for the last 10 years.
ISLAMABAD: While the Supreme Court takes up the Rs2 billion National Bank of Pakistan Employees Welfare Fund case, the top management of the state-owned bank has been declared ‘absconders’ by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), documents available with The News state. According to FIA’s Charge Sheet No. 81/2012 dated 28–07–2012 in the First Information Report (FIR) No 23/2012 dated 10–05–2012 u/s 409, 34 PPC r/w Sec 5 of Prevention of Corruption Act 1947 submitted to anti-corruption court Karachi, 13 senior executives of the bank have been declared as absconders. Two other executives are on bail from the Sindh High Court.
RAWALPINDI: The Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) arrested a Nigerian man at the Benazir Bhutto International Airport here on Monday morning and recovered 100 heroin–filled capsules from his stomach, the ANF said. Okcke Chachoc, a national of Nigeria, was proceeding to Abu Dubai by EY–232 at 0420 hours on Monday, the ANF said. When he reached at the ANF counter, the ANF personnel, observing his suspicious activities, separated him and took him to their office.
PESHAWAR: District police on Monday arrested 48 outlaws involved in various crimes, including one absconder, and seized arms and ammunition and drugs from them. A police spokesman said that on the directives of SSP Peshawar, the Chamkani police conducted raids against criminals and miscreants and arrested 48 outlaws, including one absconder Wasim. The police teams also confiscated a gun, 3,832 bullets, three AK–47 rifles, one M–16 rifle, 3kg charas, 600 grams of opium and two bottles of liquor.
ATTOCK: Police have arrested 30 outlaws, including an illegal Afghan national along with arms and narcotics, in separate incidents, in the last 48 hours. Police said here on Monday that they have arrested an Afghan national, Azizullah, on his illegal presence in Attock, Khrud area. The police have also held 29 other outlaws and recovered 1,800 grams of hashish, 150 grams of heroin, 19 bottles of liquor, five pistols, a revolver, a 12–bore rifle, a dagger and 19 bullets from their possession in the jurisdiction of different police stations of the district. Separate cases were registered by the respective police stations, against all the accused.
ISLAMABAD: The capital police on Monday claimed to have arrested five proclaimed offenders (POs) and eight suspects during a crackdown. According to details, Inspector General of Police Islamabad Bani Amin Khan assigned task to all sub–divisional police officers (SDPOs) to launch crackdown against POs and conduct search operations in their respective areas. During the last 24 hours, Sihala and Shahzad Town police apprehended five POs who were wanted to police in various criminal activities. The Bara Kahu police also conducted search operation in its area and claimed to arrest seven suspects while Aabpara police also nabbed a suspect.
GUJRANWALA: Concluding a trial in a double murder case of Daska City Police area, an anti–terrorism court convicted four people in a double murder case and sentenced three of them to death here on Monday. Akmal, Pitras and Farooq were given death sentence and Cahnd was awarded life imprisonment. The court ordered the convicts to pay Rs 200,000 each as compensation. Accused Tahir was declared proclaimed offender. The court acquitted four people Ahsan, Arshad, Munawar and Shahid in the case. The convicts had shot dead Shahbaz and Niaz on Daska Court premises over an old enmity.
KARACHI: Police on Monday claimed to apprehend at least 23 culprits in targeted operation and snap checking in different parts of the city. SIU arrested a target killer Javed alias Bunda from Orangi involved in at least 50 killing and recovered one KK and one TT pistol from his possession. SSP East claimed to nab at least four culprits involved in heinous crime and recovered weapons from their possession. Separately, police in targeted raids in Lyari claimed to nab at least 12 culprits involved in heinous crimes, including target killing extortion and other crimes, the raids were conducted in Raxer line, Singo Lane, Daryaabad and Nayaabad area. The identities of the accused were not disclosed.
GUJRANWALA: Concluding a trial in a murder case, a court convicted Fayyaz and awarded him death sentence with Rs 500,000 to be paid to the victim’s family. Fayyaz had shot dead his sister Ulfat Bibi and her alleged paramour Irfan after seeing them in an objectionable condition. The accused family forgave him for killing his sister Ulfat Bibi and know he was convicted of killing Irfan. The court acquitted Imtiaz co-accused in the case by giving him the benefit of the doubt.
