2 extortionists among 27 accused nabbed in Karachi
KARACHI: Karachi police Saturday claimed to have arrested 27 accused, including two extortionists, and recovered arms from their possessions during different raid in the city. DIG East Shahid Hayat during a press conference at his office claimed to have arrested two extortionists from Malir No 15 with weapons.
DIG along with SSP Javed Mehar said the accused were arrested when they came to Millar Garden to collect ransom from an administration in-charge of Premier Distribution Company.
He said the culprits had sent a extortion slip and a bullet to threaten the said officer of dire consequence in case of refusal to pay 20 million ransom. The said officer namely Ahmad Mehmood had registered a complaint with police. On his complaint, a police party took action and nabbed two alleged extortionists namely Shezor and Haider Ali with weapons. He said the police had also recovered two pistols, two cell phones and several rounds from them.
Hayat said that Gulistan-Jauhar police arrested a ringleader of street criminals near continental bakery when they were busy in looting valuables from passersby. They said the detained person, who was identified as Ejaz Ali, was involved in several heinous crimes.
The Brigade police claimed to have detained a prime accused in the murder of ASI Safeer Butt and recovered weapon from him. The police said the detained person, who was identified as Muhammad Rehan alias Amir, was a drug-peddler and hailed from KPK. They said the accused person during initial course of investigation confessed to have murdered ASI Safeer along with his two accomplices namely Zakir and Shair Alam. Further investigation was underway.
Meanwhile, the paramilitary rangers have also taken 23 suspects into custody during search operation at Art Chowk, Lyari.
