Burewala: Police book gang-rape victim for suicide
BUREWALA: Gaggo Mandi police became ‘active’ four days after a gang–rape incident when the 18–year–old victim committed suicide at Chak 273/EB on Sunday. Four days ago, Ikram Jatt and Mujahid Joyia kidnapped Muhammad Ramazan’s 18-year-old daughter when she was washing clothes at a water channel and raped her for hours. Ramazan approached the police for registration of a case against the accused when the girl informed her parents about the incident. The police allegedly delayed registration as some influential people of the area were pressurising the victim’s family for a ‘compromise’ with the accused. The police, however, registered a case on Saturday evening. On Sunday, the girl, who was dejected after the incident, took poison. She was rushed to a local hospital but died. After the girl’s death, the police became ‘active’ and arrested Mujahid Joyia, one of the two accused. The police also registered a suicide case against the unfortunate girl.
