Karachi: 2 suspected TTP militants arrested
KARACHI: Targeted killings claimed at least four more lives including an employee of Karachi Electricity Supply Company (KESC) and an activist of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) in different areas of the metropolis here on Monday. Meanwhile, two alleged members of TTP and a gangster were arrested during separate raids. Yaqoob Baloch, 41, son of Taj Mohammad, an employee of the KESC, was shot dead inside an office of the KESC located in Nazimabad No 1 in the jurisdiction of Rizvia police station.
According to police officials, at least five armed men barged into the KESC office and shot him dead. The deceased’s body was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead.
Initial investigation revealed that the victim was member of Balochistan National Party and had recently given a statement against the outlawed People’s Aman Committee. Police suspect Aman operatives were behind the incident. No case was registered as the police was waiting for family’s statement.
It is pertinent to mention here that the deceased was the third KESC employee who had been killed within couple of days while police have so far been unable to arrest the culprits behind the killings of KESC employees.
A worker of MQM identified as 26–year–old Imtiaz, son of Saleem was gunned down near Gull Plaza on M A. Jinnah Road in the jurisdiction of Nabi Bux police station. Police said that the deceased was the supporter of MQM and was a resident of Ranchore Lane area. Initial investigation pointed out that the wave of ethnic killing was the cause behind the incident.
The victim’s body was taken to the Civil Hospital, Karachi and later handed over to his family while the case of murder was not registered.
In another incident, an unidentified young man was shot dead in the remits of PIB Colony police station. Police said that unidentified assailants abducted him before killing him at the said place and managed to escape. The motive behind the incident has yet to be ascertained while the body of the victim was shifted to morgue for identification after autopsy at the JPMC.
A body of an elderly man identified as 60–year–old Sultan Mohammad, son of Badshah was found from Sultanabad in limits of Jackson police station. Police said that the deceased was tortured to death while the motive behind the incident has yet to be ascertained.
Meanwhile, two alleged militants affiliated with Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan were apprehended from Orangi Town. Police officials said that the accused were included Faisal Mehsud and Khan Mohammad alias Sajid, involved in the killings of ASI Nadeem and constable Sajid. On the other side, an alleged gangster, namely Shaukat along with a kalashnikov and narcotics was arrested from Pak Colony area. Police said that the suspect was associated with Ghaffar Zikri Group and was also involved in several cases of targeted killings.
