Lahore: 6 agents arrested from outside Passport office
LAHORE: The FIA Crime Circle on Monday conducted a raid on Passport Office Garden Town and arrested six agents sitting outside the office.An investigator said that they were receiving complaints from the passport office that the said agents were involved in minting money from innocent citizens. On receiving these complaints, the FIA conducted a raid on the Passport Office and arrested six people allegedly involved in minting money from innocent citizens.
Those detained by the FIA included Muhammad Yasin, Muhammad Badar Alam, Muhammad Saleem and three others. The modus operandi of the accused was to receive extra money from the applicants in the name of consultancy and facilitation.
An investigator said that these agents started their work from filling of challan form of a citizen and then offered other services, such as submission of application form without standing in long queues and preparation of passport in short time. They ask people from districts other than Lahore to pay five to ten thousand rupees to get their passports issued from Lahore, while it is a simple process and one could get permission from Deputy Director Passport Office in this regard.
The accused Muhammad Badar, who happens to be a BA student, said that they get their illegal work done with the connivance of Passport Office staff. He demanded action against Assistant Director Passport office and one Farhat who facilitated them in their illegal work.
When contacted Passport Office Assistant Director Mubashir Tirmizi said it was a routine raid and was conducted on his request.
