Murree: Women gangs loot tourists
MURREE: With arrival of peak summer season a large number of women gangs have reached Murree who steal valuables from shops and loot women tourists as well. Though a good number of policemen are deployed at the hill station they hesitate to take action. Shopkeepers have appealed to high-up in the police department to deploy women police to check such crimes. Shaukat Abbasi, a shopkeeper at Lower Mall, said about five girls entered his shop and remained there for some times doing window shopping. After they left, two purses and some artificial jewellery sets were missing.
Eid Mohammad, another shopkeeper on the Mall, related the same story.
A tourist family complained that some women came to Kanaan Park and kept them busy in chatting while other members of their gang took away their bags.
ASP Murree Abbas Mujeed Marwat admitted that women police were needed in Murree especially during summer season when tourists throng the hill resort. He said according to service rules no woman could be employed in police department from outside Murree.
Locals have appealed to Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif to recruit local women in police department.
