Karachi: 2 suspects remanded
KARACHI: The judicial magistrate (East) on Saturday remanded two suspects to police custody in a relics smuggling case. Zafar and Asif Majeed, the driver and the cleaner of the truck from which the relics were recovered, were arrested by police on Friday. They were transporting a large number of Gandhara Civilisation artefacts, including statues and coins, to Sialkot. The police said they intercepted a truck in the limits of the Awami Colony police and recovered statues of Gautama Buddha, coins, utensils and other artefacts from the vehicle.
They added that the suspects kept the relics in a warehouse in Ibrahim Haidery before trying to transport them to Sialkot. The warehouse owner and consignee, Asif and Atif, were still at large. The magistrate remanded the suspects till July 11 and directed the police to produce them before his court on the next date of hearing.
