Karachi: 5, including policeman, shot dead in metropolis
KARACHI: Five, including a policeman, fell prey to the violent incidents that took place in the metropolis on Wednesday. A policeman was gunned down in an encounter that took place in Gharibabad Goth, Malir within the precincts of Malir City police station. According to police, following a tip off their team reached Gharibabad Goth to conduct a raid. As soon as the police party reached the site, armed culprits ambushed them and opened indiscriminate fire. In an ensuing crossfire, Constable Mushtaq Ahmed, son of Kareem Deen received a bullet and was rushed to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC). However, he succumbed to the injury while being treated. Meanwhile, the culprits fled from the scene under the cover of heavy gunfire.
Constable Ahmed hailed from Gujrat and was currently a resident of Malir. He had been serving in the police department for past 20 years. His funeral prayer was offered at Police Head Quarters, Malir.
In another incident, a man was killed over a petty issue at Korangi, Vita Chowrangi within the limits of Korangi Industrial Area police station. SHO Tariq Raheem informed Daily Times that Abdul Absar, 34, son of Abdul Ghaffar, was on his way home when his car hit a motorcyclist. After some hot words, the motorcyclist pulled out a handgun and shot once, killing Absar on the spot.
SHO Raheem said that victim was a resident of North Karachi and used to work in a chemical production factory. Body was shifted to the JPMC for postmortem.
In yet another incident, a man was shot dead inside his house situated in Faqeer Colony, Orangi within the jurisdiction of Mominabad police station. Police said that victim Abdul Raheem, 26, son of Yaqoob, was sleeping in his house when unidentified culprits barged in and shot him multiple times. Raheem died instantly while the culprits managed to flee from the scene. Body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) for medico–legal formalities. Victim was a resident of Faqeer Colony and police suspect some personal enmity to have caused the incident.
Similarly, a woman was killed in her house situated near Cheel Chowk, Lyari within the jurisdiction of Kalakot police station. An official said that victim Salma, 35, wife of Ghulam Shabbir was shot twice by unidentified culprits who barged into her house. She died on the spot while culprits made their getaway. Body was moved to the Civil Hospital Karachi for autopsy. Police suspect that the incident may be linked to some personal enmity.
Separately, a robber was killed by his accomplice in a would-be heist near Iqra University within the jurisdiction of Baloch Colony police station. According to police, two armed men barged into an insurance company’s office situated near Iqra University in the early hours of Wednesday. However, both went into an argument following which, one was shot by the other. The injured robber breathed his last on the way to JPMC while the culprit managed to flee from the scene. The identity of the victim is yet to be ascertained.
