Gujranwala: Ex-law officer shot dead by absconders
GUJRANWALA: A former assistant district public prosecutor was shot dead allegedly by proclaimed offenders in Ghakkhar Town on Friday. Reports said former law officer Shahzad Zafar Cheema, of Kotli Sahian, had an enmity with absconder Rizwan of the same village. Shahzad Cheema was present in a salon for hair cutting when Rizwan and his accomplice came there and shot him to death instantly. The police reached the spot and took the body into its custody. A case has been registered against absconder Rizwan and his accomplice.
Meanwhile, the Wazirabad Bar Association boycotted court proceedings in protest and also announced three days of mourning.
On the call of the Punjab Bar Association, the District Bar Association, Gujranwala, also announced a strike on Saturday (today).
Bar secretary Khurram Shaukat Chaudhry condemned the murder of Shahzad Zafar Cheema, alleging the Punjab government had failed to protect the lives of lawyers.
He demanded of the chief minister and the Gujranwala DIG to arrest the culprits immediately.
