Lahore: 5 ‘robbers’ arrested
LAHORE: Shafiqabad police claim to have arrested a five–member gang of robbers involved in 10 house robberies after a shootout near Bund Road on Friday morning. The arrested robbers were identified as Faisal, a salesman of a private electronics company, of Gujranwala and accomplices Akmal Shahzad, Arslan, Sarfraz and Saeed. A police team, headed by Shafiqabad Circle DSP Anwar Saeed and comprising Sub–Inspector Khalid Ghorsi, conducted a raid in Aleechi Wala Bagh near Bund Road and arrested the suspects after a shootout.
The DSP said one Shahnaz Bibi hired the services of ringleader Faisal for a robbery in the house of her brother-in-law, Mushtaq, living in Karim Park.
Faisal along with accomplices barged in the house of Mushtaq in April and took away Rs200,000, gold jewellery worth Rs1.2 million and other valuables. The robbers also subjected to torture Mushtaq, who was a cardiac patient, and his family members.
The DSP said the police picked up some relatives of Mushtaq, including Shahnaz Bibi, on suspicion. During interrogation, she confessed to the crime.
While in police custody, Shahnaz phoned Faisal and asked him to reach near Bund Road along with accomplices for another robbery. As Faisal reached there, the police arrested him along with accomplices after a shootout.
The DSP claimed the suspects had confessed 10 more house robberies in various localities of the city.
