Lahore: Man dies of aerial firing
LAHORE: A 70–year–old man was killed after a stray bullet hit him when he was asleep at his rooftop at his Sharif Park residence in the Baghbanpura police area on early Sunday. Police reports say Khushi Muhammad, father of four, was pronounced dead at the scene. Later, his body was removed to the City morgue for autopsy and police began investigation with all aspects, including jubilation firing. Also, a 24–year–old youth drowned in City Branch Canal near Lal Pull on Sunday. Police said one Irfan, a tailor by profession, near Habib Park came to the Canal along with his friends for taking bath. “Later, he disappeared in water and was recovered dead by rescuers,” a rescuer said.
Meanwhile, a jail warder of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Prisons Department, who had sustained multiple bullet injuries in Rasool Park, Samanabad, terrorist attack on Thursday last, succumbed to his wounds herein the Services Hospital on Sunday, brining the death toll to 10. The body of the deceased was handed over to the aggrieved family after completing necessary medico–legal formalities.
Meanwhile, valuables worth hundreds of thousands were reduced to ashes in three fire incidents in the City on Sunday. According to details, a fire broke out in the record room of Model Town District Courts following unknown reason, burning down record, furniture and other valuables.
A rescuer said that fire also broke out in a house following short-circuiting in LDA Quarters near Packages Factory, gutting valuables worth thousands.
A generator of a private school also caught fire following sparks in Defence area, burning down valuables worth thousands.
