2,349 cases registered during 6 months in Gujranwala
GUJRANWALA: As many as 2,349 cases of murder, attempt to murder and dacoity were reported across the district from January 1 to June 30. There are 30 police stations in the district, which have been divided into three circles. The City circle having nine police stations is on the top of the crime rate. According to the break-up, 140 murders, 722 armed dacoities, 292 kidnap, including kidnap for ransom, were reported while the number of vehicle thefts was 1,195. According to the circle-wise break-up, 34 murders, 279 dacoities, 116 kidnaps and 413 thefts were reported in the City circle. In the Civil Lines circle, 24 murder, 235 dacoity, 92 kidnap and 458 theft cases were registered.
The Sadr circle was at the bottom as 82 murders, 209 dacoities, 84 kidnaps and 324 thefts were reported during the said period. Sources disclosed that the crime rate was low in urban areas as compared to the rural areas. They said that patty crimes were not mostly reported in the urban areas. They said that hundreds of cases were pending due to a delay in investigation.
