Karachi: 54 bandits killed in 631 encounters during Jan-July
KARACHI: As many as 631 encounters took place during which police killed 54 dacoits in Karachi during the period from January 1 to July 19. The police claimed busting 483 gangs of dacoits and arresting 5,132 criminals including 945 absconders and 104 proclaimed offenders during this period. These figures were mentioned in a report about the performance of police of all the five districts, specialised units – SIU, ACLC and AVCC presented to the Inspector General Police of Sindh Fayyaz Ahmed Leghari.
The 131 encounters took place in District South, 144 in East, 70 in West, 121 in Central and 122 in Malir while 12 dacoits were killed in South, eight in East, seven in West, 18 in Central and nine in Malir. The police also recovered 49 SMGs, five shot guns, 65 rifles, 93 repeaters, 3,541 pistols, 85 revolvers, seven carbines, 24 mousers, two RPGs, 171 hand grenades, 61 mortars, 129 daggers and 960 mobile phones from the arrested criminals, a release said on Sunday.
