Karachi: 4 target killers, extortionist arrested
KARACHI: Four alleged target killers and an extortionist were arrested in separate raids, police said on Friday. Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) SSP Khurram Waris said the police were informed about the presence of some target killers in the Baghdadi area. Acting on the tip-off, a CIA team conducted a raid and after a brief encounter, arrested Syed Faiz Zaidi alias Mullah and Imran Khan alias TPO alias Korangi Wala. The police recovered one Kalashnikov, a repeater gun, two TT pistols and hundreds of bullets from the two men’s possession. During interrogation, it was found that the arrested men were activists of a political party and involved in target killings since the 90s. They confessed to killing several people including activists of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM).
The admitted that they had attacked an MQM office in Khokharapar on July 22, 2011, and killed six activists of the party, Nadeem Shehreyar, Ghulam Murtaza, Akber Jameel, Azeem and Tariq, and injured 15 others.
After the attack, they had left the city and taken shelter in an upcountry area. After spending a few months there, they had returned to Karachi and restarted their criminal activities including target killings and extorting money from traders in Korangi, Landhi and Khokhrapar.
The two men also disclosed that they had killed an employee of the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board, Abid, at Abul Hassan Ispahani Road. They were also paid to kill a man named Khalid Zaman, but were arrested before they could fulfil that mission.
Arrests in Chanesar Goth
Two alleged target killers belonging to a religio–political party were arrested in Chanesar Goth, Mehmoodabad. Two 9mm pistols and over 150 bullets were recovered from their possession.
The Clifton Town police said acting on a tip-off, they conducted a raid and arrested Pervaz alias Saifullah and Aslam alias Charia.
During interrogation, the two men confessed to killing more than 12 people, including policemen.
They said they had killed a constable in Mehmoodabad three days ago and a sub–inspector in Ibrahim Hyderi about a week back.
A CIA team conducted a raid in Mehmoodabad and after an encounter, arrested an alleged extortionist, Rana Zulqarnain. A pistol was recovered from his possession.
During interrogation, the arrested man told the police that he and other members of his gang were extorting money from the traders in Korangi Industrial Area. They had recently demanded Rs0.2 million from a garments trader, Raja Munir Khan, and threatened to kill him if he failed to pay the money. The CIA was conducting more raids to arrest other members of the gang.
