LALAMUSA: As many as 22 persons including three women, a cop and seven army personnel were killed in separate incidents of honour killing, old rivalries, land disputes and acts of terrorism during the last of July across the district. Seven army Jawans and a Punjab police constable were martyred while five army men were injured in a terrorists attack near Chenab River bridge, a lady was killed at Mauza Bhurch, a married woman and her father-in-law at Sara-e–Alamgir Town and a schoolteacher and a youth were assassinated in another incident.
Similarly, a passerby was killed and five others were wounded near Kharian Sessions Court, at Mauza Jasoki a middle aged man, at Mauza Phularwan a young man, at Mohallah Dhaki a former councillor, at Mauza Dhool Kalan a man whereas at Lalamusa a young taxi driver were killed for different motives.
It is pertinent to mention that in most of the cases the police failed to apprehend the alleged killers. According to available statics, at least 200 to 250 persons get killed by their rivals every year which no doubt is an alarming phenomenon and an eye-opener for the law enforcement agency. The authorities at helm of affairs and civil society should ponder over the cruel practice and take appropriate measures to remedy the situation.
