Islamabad: 3 gangs of robbers busted
ISLAMABAD: The Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) of Islamabad Police has busted three notorious gangs of dacoits who were allegedly involved in snatching cabs from drivers, purses from women and looting valuables from the houses after making inmates hostage at gunpoint. Addressing a press conference here on Monday, Senior Superintendent of Police Islamabad Yaseen Farooq said that there had been complaints about dacoity incidents in various areas after which special task was assigned to CIA police to arrest those criminals involved in such nature of crime. Special teams under supervision of SP (Investigation) Ch. Liaqat Ali were constituted which included In-Charge CIA Bashir Ahmed Noon, Sub–Inspectors Muhammad Ali, Zulfiqar Ahmed, Azhar Mehmud, ASIs Riaz Macon, Syed Haider Ali Shah, Zafar Iqbal, Abul Hafeez and others.
After hectic efforts during the last two weeks, the SSP said, these teams succeeded in nabbing 12 criminals who were involved in snatching cabs from their drivers after hiring them, taking away purses as well as jewellery of women after riding on motorbikes with helmets and looting houses at gunpoint.
Police also recovered eight pistols along with ammunition, three snatched Suzuki Mehran vehicles (LXD–4887, RIB–4732, LRM–387), the cash received after selling other vehicles, gold ornaments, looted items worth hundreds of thousands of rupees and foreign currency including 6,000 dollars and 600 Euros from them.
During the preliminary investigation, these nabbed criminals have confessed that they committed 18 dacoities in areas of various police stations including Secretariat, Margalla, Koral, Shehzad Town, Nilore, Ramna, Shalimar, Industrial area and Sabzi Mandi.
The gangsters involved in snatching cabs have been identified as Ismail s/o Nur Muhammad, resident of Mangora Swat; Adnan s/o Muhammad Saleem, resident of Dhoke Kazim Chatta Bakhtawar, Islamabad; Noshad Akhtar Kiani s/o Muhammad Akhtar Kiani, resident of Sohawa district Jhelum; Muhammad Aslam alias Sikandar s/o Muhamamd Azam, resident of Peshawar; Rashid Mehmud s/o Haroon Rasheed, resident of Jewra Tehsil Kahuta; and Fazal ur Rehman s/o Farooq, resident of Khushab.
Those involved in street crime and snatching purses as well as ornaments from women have been identified as Tahir Mehmud alias Foji s/o Sardar Bux, resident of Shahpur Saddar Sargodha; Ameer s/o Muhammad Basheer, resident of Chak No.7, Bhlawal district Sargodha.
The other dacoits involved in looting valuables after storming into houses have been identified as Kamran s/o Muhammad Pervez, resident of Rehmat Colony, Sheikhupura; Mian Arif s/o Muhammad Sharif, resident of Labour Colony Sheikhupura; Naveed Masih s/o Nazeer Masih and Wilson Masih s/o Pitras Masih, residents of Iqbal Town, Islamabad.
Appreciating the efforts of the CIA police team, SSP Islamabad Farooq Yaseen said that it is the prime responsibility of the police to ensure protection to the lives and property of citizens and every possible effort would be made to accomplish this task in dutiful manner.
He hoped for further better performance of CIA police in future and said that IGP Islamabad Bani–Amin Khan has also announced to award cash and special prizes to these teams of CIA police.
Later, the SSP handed over recovered valuables to their actual owners and keys to the owners of vehicles.
