Karachi: Customs staff nabs absconder in hashish smuggling case
KARACHI: Customs staff has arrested an absconder and produced him before the court for physical remand, officials informed on Tuesday. As per details, in pursuance to credible information, staff of the Model Customs Collectorate (Preventive) seized 495kg hashish on May 30, 2000. A prosecution case was registered vide FIR No SCS-02/2000 dated May 30, 2000 wherein Anwar Hussain Qureshi s/o Iqbal Hussain Qureshi, Raees Khan s/o Baboo Khan and Muhammad Pervaz s/o Hayat Muhammad were nominated as accused.
Subsequently, investigation transpired that Raja Ziaullah Khan, Askar Bhatti and Khawaja Tajammul Hussain were found to be their associate in the conspiracy and attempt of smuggling of contraband hashish out of country. However, all the three accused were absconder and did not join investigation and prosecution proceeding.
Accused Raja Ziaullah after obtaining restraining order from the Sindh High Court gone underground and did not attend the hearing before the court. The case was decided on June 17, 2004 and the case of absconding accused was kept on dormant. However, the prosecution agency made hectic and constant efforts to arrest them and ultimately, the Customs staff traced out one accused Raja Ziaullah, arrested him from Karachi and produced him before the court for physical remand.
