Rawalpindi: Factory sealed, 795 cartons of fake cold drinks seized
RAWALPINDI: A team of the district health department with the collaboration of police sealed a factory at Hazara Colony, which was preparing, packing and selling fake brands of renowned cold drinks. The team confiscated as many as 795 cartons, each containing six bottles of one-and-a-half litres of fake cold drinks. Tehsil Food Inspector Shahid Mehmood and his team along with police, including SHO Syed Asghar Shah of the Ratta Amral Police Station, conducted a raid on House no. 665-B, Street 3, Hazara Colony, where the factory was operating.
The raiding team also confiscated empty bottles, concentrates, flavours, essences and machinery which were sufficient to prepare another 2,000 cartons of fake brands of cold drinks. The team also confiscated four bags of stickers to be wrapped around bottles and over 10,000 caps of bottles bearing various brand names, said District Health Officer Dr. Khalid Randhawa while talking to ‘The News’.
He added that the owner of the factory, Sheikh Tanveer Asghar, was arrested from the factory and an FIR against him was lodged with the Ratta Amral Police Station under Sections 269, 270, 272, 273, 420, 468, 471, 482, 483, 485 and 486 of the PPC, Pure Food Ordinance 1960 Rules 2011 Section 5-A and under Section 141 sub–sections 17, 18 and 19 of the Local Government Ordinance.
Shahid Mehmood and his team raided the factory on the directives of district health officer who received information about the malpractice from an informant.
