Karachi: Man sentenced to 3 years in jail for forgery
KARACHI: Additional District and Sessions Judge (South) AbdurRazzaq awarded three years’ imprisonment to Fareed Anwar for forgery and running an illegal bank in Surjani Town, which produced huge amounts of fake currency in 2010. The Supreme Court had taken notice of the existence of illegal banks and ordered the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to arrest all those involved in this illegal activity. In Karachi, the FIA, assisted by the Citizens–Police Liaison Committee (CPLC), conducted a raid on the illegal bank, which was minting fake foreign and local currency. The court, while convicting the accused, also imposed a fine of one million rupees on him.
The convict was informed that after the completion of his confinement period, the accused would have to visit a court office every fortnight as punishment.
