Karachi: MQM man among 9 killed on Eid days
KARACHI: At least nine persons, including a political worker and a woman, were killed in separate acts of violence in different parts of the city during the three days of Eid. A worker of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement was killed in Orangi Town on Monday, police said. They said the incident took place in Gulshan-i-Bihar Sector 16-C within the remit of the Pakistan Bazaar police station, where two suspects riding a motorcycle opened fire on a barbershop. As a result of the firing, Shahid Siddiqui suffered fatal gunshot wounds and died before he could be shifted to hospital. The suspects fled the scene, said the police. They said Shahid was a worker of Unit 121 of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement and at the time of the shooting, he was sitting at the barbershop waiting for his turn. Following the incident heavy firing was reported in the area and shops and markets were forced to shut.
Woman found dead
The body of a woman was found near the old airport building on Wednesday.
A duty officer of the airport police station said the body was found at a deserted place near the old airport building early on Wednesday morning.
He said the victim was identified as Meher Mai, 40, wife of Abdul Majeed. The victim was killed allegedly by her husband who had apparently brought her to the spot and stabbed her to death, the duty officer said.
The police shifted the body to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for a post–mortem examination. They said the suspect was helped by two other persons.
The victim was a resident of Jamali Goth, Gulshan–i-Iqbal. The police said the suspect called his son Shafeeq informing him that he had killed his mother and the body was lying at the scene.
Although the police were not sure about the motive for the killing, they suspected the murder was the result of ‘honour killing’.
Police registered an FIR (156/2012) under Section 302 (premeditated murder) of the Pakistan Penal Code against Abdul Majeed on a complaint of Shafeeq.
Two bodies found
The bodies of two unidentified men were found in different parts of the city on Wednesday.
Police said the victims had apparently been kidnapped by unknown persons who later killed them.
One of the bodies was found within the remit of the Risala police station and the other near old Sabzi Mandi within remit of the PIB Colony police station.
The police shifted the bodies to the Civil Hospital Karachi and Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for medico–legal formalities.
The police said both men had been subjected to torture before being shot.
Four young men killed
Four young men were killed in separate areas. One of them was killed by unknown persons in Baldia Town late on Tuesday night. Police said the incident took place within the remit of the Saeedabad police station, off Hub River Road, where Mohammad Waqar, 25, was targeted by unknown suspects riding a motorcycle.
The police said the victim was sitting near his home in Saeedabad when gunmen targeted him. He was rushed to the Civil Hospital Karachi, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Another young man was killed during a dispute between two persons in Gulistan-i-Jauhar on Monday.
Police said the incident took place in Pehlawan Goth, where there was a dispute between two cousins, Syed Shah Raza and Shad Mir. The two traded fire, but a bullet instead hit Reyan Ali, 25. He was rushed to the JPMC but died before reaching the hospital.
The police said the two suspects fled. They said the victim was a daily wage earner and resident of Pehlawan Goth.
Another young man was killed by unknown persons off Manghopir Road on Tuesday.
Police said the incident took place in Awan Colony within the remit of the Pirabad police station, where Aurangzeb Khan, 32, was killed. The police shifted the body to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico–legal formalities.
Area people told the police that the victim was killed by his brother who had fled the scene. They said the victim’s elder brother, Ayub Khan, avoided giving a statement to the police about the incident.
A young man found shot dead in Lyari on Monday was identified on Wednesday.
Police said the body was found within the remit of the Kalakot police station. He was identified as Noman aka Nomi. The police said they believed that unknown persons killed him after kidnapping.
The victim was shot in the abdomen and had marks of rope around his neck. He was a resident of Yousuf Haroon Road, street 4, and had gone out on the Eid day but did not return home.
Qinqi driver killed
A Qinqi driver was killed by unknown persons in New Karachi on Wednesday.
Police said the incident took place within the remit of the Khwaja Ajmair Nagri police station, where Mohammad Shafeeq, 25, was asleep in his three-wheeler when unknown suspects shot him in the head and fled.
Hearing the gunshot area people came out of their homes and saw the victim lying in a pool of blood. They informed police, rushed the victim to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The police suspected that the motive for the killing was personal enmity.
