Chakwal: Runaway couple killed for honour
CHAKWAL: In a case of honour killing, a brother shot dead his sister and the man she had eloped with in Doray village early Thursday, police sources said. Identified by his initials M.Q., the murderer reportedly confessed to the crime. Police sources told Dawn that A.K., the 30–year–old murdered man, had relocated himself and his family from Nowshera to Doray village, in the jurisdiction of Dhudial police station, a couple of years ago. While assimilating with the local villagers, A.K. and his wife and children, developed close relations with the family of M.H., a farmer. According to the sources, A.K. used to work for M.H. during harvest season and assisted him in daily domestic chores also. That way A.K. became a regular visitor to M.H.’s house, and reportedly fell in love with his daughter S.A. Early last month, A.K. allegedly eloped with 22–year–old S.A., which enraged the girl’s elders.
They lodged a First Information Report (FIR) with Dhudial police in which they accused A.K. of kidnapping their daughter. They tried their best to trace the couple but in vain.
Meanwhile A.K. and S.A. tied the knot in a court. When the girl’s elders came to know about the marriage, they started to convince the couple to return home, assuring that they would not be harmed, but the couple was reluctant.
A few days ago, the girl’s family once again asked them to return to the village. S.A. convinced her husband A.K. and both reached the village on Wednesday morning. They were warmly received by the girl’s family. However in the early hours of Thursday when both were sleeping, M.Q. 20, the girl’s brother, allegedly shot them dead.
After killing them, M.Q. with the help of his father threw the bodies in the fields.
In the morning, the villagers noticed the two bodies lying in the field and they informed the police.
Dhudial police led by SHO Ejaz Hussain Shah rushed to the scene and shifted the bodies to DHQ Hospital where autopsy was conducted.
Later M.Q. presented himself before the police and confessed to having committed the crime for the sake of his family’s honour. Police also recovered the pistol from his custody.
“We have registered a case of double murder against M.Q. on the complaint of R.B., the first wife of A.K.,” SHO Ejaz Shah told Dawn.
