Lahore: Warrants for DPO over court defiance
LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Thursday issued non-bailable arrest warrants for Chiniot District Police Office Shahzad Akbar and two other police officers for not appearing before the court or producing a young abducted girl (16). The court also ordered the DIG concerned to ensure the production of girl (S) in the court on next hearing. The petitioner, Hafiz Muhammad Aslam, contended, through his counsel, that some influential persons of the area had committed rape with his daughter and Sadar Police Station registered an FIR. He pointed out that some days after the incident, Sadar SHO Muhammad Younis, ASI Mazhar Iqbal, along with Mehdi Hassan and Shaukat, came to his house and took his daughter with them to conduct her DNA at Lahore.
The petitioner argued that since then, her daughter had not returned home and he contacted police time and again but they did not give any satisfactory answer regarding her whereabouts. On the previous hearing, the court had adjourned the case after the DPO ensure the court that he would recover the girl and produce her before the court but neither the DPO turned up on Thursday nor was the girl produced.
At this, the court issued arrest warrants for DPO Shahzad Akbar, SHO Muhammad Younis and ASI Mazhar Iqbal for August 27 and ordered the DIG to produce the girl.
