Karachi: 4 target killers, extortionists arrested
KARACHI: At least four men allegedly involved in target killings and extortion were apprehended on Saturday during separate raidsby police in different areas of the city. At least two men allegedly involved in the triple murder of Balochistan member provincial assembly, Mir Bakhtiar Domki’s wife, daughter and a driver were apprehended by Clifton Police.
The accused were being questioned at an undisclosed location about the triple murder of Domki’s family who were gunned down in Gizri area in January. The names of the suspects were not disclosed while a joint interrogation team was also formed to question them.
In another raid, Maripur police claimed to have arrested an alleged target killer allegedly involved in killing about 31 people including member provincial assembly belonging to the Muttahida Qaumi Movement at Abul Hassan Isphani Road, City District Government Karachi’s municipal officer Mohib and his companion Osama on University Road and outlawed Peoples Amn Committee leader Jameel Baloch in Dhobi Ghat area of Garden locality.
The suspect was identified as Jahangir aka Murtaza who was allegedly affiliated with a political party and his arrest was made from Maripur area on a tip-off. A rifle, a pistol and two hand grenades were also recovered from his possession.
Separately, police have apprehended a teenager when he accompanied by his two companions was busy collecting extortion money from a poultry trader in Empress Market, Saddar within the limits of Preedy police station. The extortionist was identified as Sameer Baloch alias Patni, 18.
Police official said that Sameer and his two young companions were demanding extortion money worth Rs1 million from the poultry trader namely Shafi Muhammad and after negotiations, they arrived to collect Rs0.4 million from the trader when police caught him. His companions managed to escape by throwing a hand grenade at the police personnel.
Meanwhile, a worker of MQM was gunned down within the remits of Napier police station. He was identified as Shahzad Ali, 25. He was sitting at a barber shop near his home when some armed motorcyclists killed him. Police officials said that victim’s brother Abid was a senior worker of MQM.
Another man was gunned down in Shirin Jinnah Colony within the remits of Boat Basin police station. Police said that Muhammad Ayub was on his way with his three friends in a rickshaw when a bullet was fired and hit Ayub’s head.
Resultantly, Ayub died on the spot and his accomplices were managed to flee. Police have remained not in a position to determine the reason behind the murder while handed over the body to the family after autopsy.
