Okara: Death of a dacoit in police custody; SHO among 5 cops booked
OKARA: The Sadr police have registered a case against five policemen, including the SHO, for torturing a dacoit to death on Friday. The booked officials are: SHO Muhammad Ali Chaddar, Investigation in charge Inspector Javed Khan, MohararIqbal and two constables. The case has been registered under sections 302, 148 and 149 of the PPC on the complaint of victim’s nephew Javed Iqbal. All the booked policemen have been suspended. However, no torture mark was found during his autopsy at DHQ Hospital. Meanwhile, a case was also registered against the three dacoits under sections 393 and 397 PPC and 13/20/65 of the Arms Ordinance on the complaint of Muhammad Iqbal of 24/GD village.
On Wednesday night, Muhammad Saeed, Abdur Rashid and Liaquat Ali tried to loot a truck on Bibipur Road, but the driver fled. They chased the truck and opened fire at the vehicle. During the chase, their motorcycle skidded off the road and fell in a paddy field. In the meantime, the truck also stuck up in a field. The residents of 24/GD village reached the spot and caught the injured Saeed and Abdur Rashid. However, their accomplice managed to escape. The injured dacoits were taken to hospital and brought back to the police station after treatment. The condition of Saeed deteriorated and he was again taken to hospital where he died. The deceased’s relatives led by JI ticket holder Dr Liaquat Ali Kausar staged a demonstration outside the Okara Press Club, accusing the police of killing him. They also blocked GT Road by placing body on it. The police had to baton charge the protesters.
