Islamabad: NAB arrests ex-Ogra chief’s staff officer
ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has arrested Jawad Jamil, the staff officer (SO) to former Ogra chairman TauqeerSadiq, and reportedly his close relative in the bogus CNG licences scam. A spokesman for the NAB said the bureau had also issued arrest warrants for Mir Kamal Marri, Ogra member finance, and Dewan Muhammad ZiaurRehmanFarooqi, Dewan Petroleum CEO, for their involvement in corruption and corrupt practices in the affairs of Ogra during the tenure of TauqeerSadiq. The NAB asked the Islamabad IG for the execution of arrest warrants for both the accused persons.
Earlier, another accused person in the case, Mansoor Muzaffar, Ogra member gas, was arrested by the NAB on May 16. According to NAB sources, TauqeerSadiq, along with his concerned members, Mir Kamal and Mansoor, had caused a loss of billions of rupees to the national exchequer by changing CNG sites, increasing well-head price for Dewan Petroleum, changing operating income to non-operating income and increasing unaccounted-for gas.
The sources said the then Ogra chairman converted operating incomes of two public utilities, SNGPL and SSGC, into non-operating income that resulted in Rs38 billion additional burden of revenue on consumers. “Furthermore, public gas utilities eroded a billion rupees under the head of gas development surcharge,” they added.
The sources said Tauqeer Sadiq, along with others, not only misused his authority but they were also involved in illegal relocation of the CNG sites, despite the federal government’s ban on new CNG stations.
